Scholarship Recipients
2022 – 2023

Sr. Roswitha Frawley worked to ensure residents and community members understood the history rooted in the Mary’s Woods campus, as well as the treasures left behind by the Holy Names Sisters when they established the campus in 2001. She encouraged and supported people to step outside of their comfort zones and continue pursuing education.
Meet the 2023 Scholarship Recipients
The Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship Fund is a testament to Sr. Roswitha as an individual, as well as Mary’s Woods’ dedication to its employees. Through the generosity of the scholarship program, Mary’s Woods is proud to announce the four 2023 scholarship fund recipients:
Meet Cathy

Cathy celebrated her 20th anniversary with the Mary’s Woods Finance Department in February. Cathy will be attending George Fox University in the fall to pursue a Masters of Divinity.
“It is surprising how often a question about a bill or service rolls into a conversation about life, loss, joy, grief, hope. Going back to school to become a chaplain will enrich my work life, my home life, my church life. I’m very excited about the journey ahead!”
Meet Mary
Mary started working at Mary’s Woods the day after her 16th birthday. She has worked as a Dietary Aide, Resident Care Assistant and a Certified Nursing Assistant.

“I have learned so much and helped some incredible people in this role! With the help of the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship, this fall I plan to attend University of Oregon for pre-nursing, and later transfer to a nursing school.”
Meet Abby

Abby is the daughter of one of Mary’s Woods Nurse Managers, Sandra Roth. Abby is studying Bio Health at Oregon State University and plans to continue into a nursing program and follow in her mom’s footsteps as a Registered Nurse.
“After watching my mom be a nurse my whole life and help so many people, she has inspired me to do the same. I plan to use the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship to work towards my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.”
Meet Natalie
Natalie is the daughter of Mary’s Woods Resident Relations Manager, Ann Adrian. Natalie will graduate with a degree in Culture and Media with a minor in Management and Leadership from a private University in New York City.

“Your investment in my education will have a lasting impact on my life and the lives of those I hope to touch in my future pursuits”
She plans to pursue a career in media-based communications.
A Generous Community
The program, sustained through generous contributions from community members at Mary’s Woods, is now in its second year and has successfully awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships, helping employees, their children, and their spouses pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals.
John Kovash, a resident at Mary’s Woods, former Chair of the the Residents’ Council, and current member of the Board of Directors for Mary’s Woods, expressed his support for the program.

“We recognize the transformative power of education and wholeheartedly endorse this initiative. Mary’s Woods is a remarkable place to live and work and this program is just one example of many.”
A Spirit of Service
The work done on the Mary’s Woods campus is rooted deeply in the community around it. By creating educational access and training opportunities for both team members and their families, the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship Fund has garnered substantial support from their donors.

Mary’s Woods community extends its warmest congratulations to the recipients and extends its gratitude to the dedicated donors whose heart-felt support continue to make this scholarship program possible.
