Award-winning Trio Affinití to Perform at Mary’s Woods Christmas Gala

November 9, 2016

Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst is pleased to announce that Affinití, Ireland’s foremost Celtic classical trio, will headline the 2016 White Christmas Spectacular Gala on December 2 and 4, 2016─an event open to the public.

Affinití includes Emer Barry (Soprano), Terese O’Donnell (Harp) and Mary McCague (Violin). The classically trained trio fuses the best of Celtic, classical and contemporary elements into a new world of music. They will be joined by Howard Crosby, an accomplished vocalist who carries on the legacy of his uncle, Bing Crosby, in a celebration of the festive season with some of the most loved Celtic and Christmas songs and duets.

Kevin Cullen, Pulitzer Prizewinning journalist with The Boston Globe, says about Affinití, “(They are) the essence of Irish art, a classical and Celtic crossover, informed as much by the Chieftains as Chopin . . . full of soul and sass and sophistication as well as exquisite technique.”

Each member of Affiniti holds a Masters in Music performance and has travelled extensively as soloists across every continent. As a group, they use their special bond to create exciting, innovative arrangements of songs from a myriad of genres including classical, Celtic, rock and pop.

The Christmas Gala is the first performance in the Music in the Woods concert series.

The concerts take place in the beautiful and acoustically sound Chapel of the Holy Names on the second floor of the Mary’s Woods historic Provincial House.
Other performers include:

Howard Crosby is an accomplished vocalist who carries on the legacy of his uncle, Bing Crosby, by performing popular songs of the Crosby-era. Howard returns to Mary’s Woods this December, collaborating with Affiniti, as part of their White Christmas tour.
