Jane Atkinson

Jane Atkinson, Board of Directors of Mary's Woods a senior living community located in Lake Oswego, OR.

A native of the Midwest, Jane completed her undergraduate degree at Bryn Mawr College and her masters and doctoral degrees at Stanford University, before joining the faculty of Lewis & Clark College. Jane is a cultural anthropologist who has conducted ethnographic research in the Philippines and Indonesia.

In 1995, Jane became the dean of arts and sciences at Lewis & Clark.  Five years later she was named vice president and provost. Over the next eighteen years, she also had occasion to serve as interim dean of the graduate school of education and counseling, interim vice president of institutional advancement, and interim president.  She has appreciated the opportunity to put her ethnographic skills to work in advancing the mission and goals of the college. Jane retired from Lewis & Clark in 2018.

Jane has served on committees and boards of various organizations, including the Ford Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the Northwest Association of Colleges and Universities.

Jane and her husband Effort live in Southwest Portland and are enthusiastic supporters of the musical arts. They came to know and appreciate Mary’s Woods through Jane’s mother, Mary Jane Monnig, who was a resident from 2001 till 2007.
