Meet this year’s Scholarship recipients

Mary’s Woods, a nationally recognized non-profit retirement community, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship. As an organization committed to the full development of residents and staff, Mary’s Woods Board of Directors developed this unique scholarship program to celebrate and encourage the educational goals of team members and their children and spouses/partners.

In listening to employees and carefully considering their feedback, Mary’s Woods recognized that many staff were not looking for opportunities for themselves but would deeply value assistance to help their dependents pursue a higher level of training or education. Mary’s Woods leadership listened and responded. To date, 14 scholarships have been awarded, ranging up to $5,000 each.
Meet the 2024 scholarship recipients:
Meet Luz
Luz began her medical career as a Registered Nurse in Mexico. Luz is seeking a state certification as a Medication Technician, which will allow her to assume new responsibilities and better serve the needs of residents in health services.
Meet Cathy
Cathy is a second-year recipient of the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship. Cathy is working on a Master’s of Divinity. She is excited to continue her education and use her new skills to expand her ability to serve others.
Meet Abby
Abby is also a second-year recipient of the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship. She recently completed her undergraduate degree and will begin nursing school in the fall. Abby plans to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse.
Meet Jessica
Jessica has worked in a variety of roles at Mary’s Woods since 2004, currently serving as a Community Life Specialist. She is enrolled in a 12 month Project Management Certification Program.
Meet Gabby
Gabby graduated from high school in June 2024 and she looks forward to fulfilling a life-long dream of becoming a secondary school teacher. Gabby is excited to begin college in the fall.
Meet Taylor
Taylor is entering her senior year of college as a biology major. She plans to pursue medical school and a career in anesthesiology. She is specifically interested in research related to pain management and patient care.
Meet Kassy
Kassy currently serves Mary’s Woods as a Client Relations Coordinator. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Leadership in the fall of 2023 and is now pursuing ALF/RCF Healthcare Administrator training and license.

About the Sr. Roswitha Scholarship Program
About the Sr. Roswitha Scholarship Program: The scholarship gets its name from Sr. Roswitha Frawley, who loyally served the Mary’s Woods community for 19 years, most recently as Vice President of Mission Integration. During her tenure, she worked diligently to aid residents and employees in understanding the rich historical roots, values, and mission of the Holy Names Sisters, who established Mary’s Woods in 2001. She sought to broaden the Mary’s Woods notion of education and training and reinforced the concept that many forms of educational pursuits are worthy of support.
Upon her retirement in 2021, the Mary’s Woods Board of Directors established the Sr. Roswitha Frawley Educational Scholarship to honor her legacy, promoting staff satisfaction and retention.
To date, donations to the fund total more than $225,000, and more than $65,000 has been awarded to deserving recipients. The scholarship is sustained through generous contributions, primarily from residents at Mary’s Woods.
