Announcing the 2016-2017 Concert Schedule
December 4 – Holiday Special – Affiniti & Howard Crosby
The trio returns to open our third season with guest performances by Howard Crosby (Bing’s nephew) and the accomplished and powerful Marylhurst Chamber Choir.
January 22 – Arnica String Quartet
Anyone who thinks that a string quartet is basic, polite, ordinary chamber music obviously has never encountered Portland’s Arnica String Quartet, especially with their seriously elegant Beethoven playing and David Ludwig’s “Pale Blue Dot,” inspired by photos of Earth from space ships!
February 26 – Rebecca Anderson, violin & Anna Petrova, piano
Anderson and her peerless collaborator, Bulgarian pianist Anna Petrova, both having recently achieved distinguished degrees, won countless honors, and commenced enviable concert careers, return to Oregon for this unique showcase recital, sure to be spell-binding.
March 19 – Musical Emergency Response Team
Those zany artists from MERT, The Musical Emergency Response Team, are always ready for flights of fancy, rapturous beauty, and challenging compositions, most of all when returning to their favorite hall at Mary’s Woods!
April 9 – Songs of Spring
When flutist Amelia Lukas and her fellow cello, piano, and soprano friends get together to create a paean to spring, you can expect lots of French romantic music and other delights. This “sonic bouquet” will be just the thing as the days lengthen and winter will finally be past.
May 7 – Darrell Grant and company, jazz program
A virtuoso quartet of musicians led by jazz pianist Darrell Grant revisit the wonderful sounds of the historic Modern Jazz Quartet. Modern Jazz New carries on the tradition of merging classical music, American song, and blues, as well as performing sophisticated original arrangements from composers as diverse as Chopin and Sting.
