John Grammel

John graduated with a BS in Pulp and Paper Technology from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Forestry at Syracuse University.  The College of Forestry has been renamed as ESF (College of Environmental Science and Forestry). His career in the paper industry started in Wisconsin and he moved to Oregon in 1963 to work at Publishers Paper Co. in Oregon City.  At Publishers he attended American Management Association (AMA) and became Assistant Resident Manager of the Oregon City mill.  In this position he was responsible for Production Operations as well as Chairman of the Standing Committee dealing with the local union. Publishers was sold to Smurfit Corporation and he was transferred to the Newberg Mill as Manager of Customer Services. In this position he traveled to customers’ pressrooms to troubleshoot and recommend solutions to both paper and press problems. Within the paper industry he was active in TAPPI and PIMA and was Chairman of the Pacific Northwest Division of PIMA for a 1 year term.  After retirement in 1997 he was an active volunteer for ARC in their blood collection program for 19 years. John and Mary have been at Mary’s Woods since August 2014 and they remain active at Resurrection Catholic Parish in Tualatin.
