Amelia Lukas & Friends to Headline April 9 Music in the Woods Concert
April 3, 2017
Mary’s Woods is pleased to announce that flutist Amelia Lukas, vocalist Arwen Myers, cellist Nancy Ives, and pianist Susan DeWitt Smith, will perform “Songs of Spring” on April 9, in the Chapel of the Holy Names, as part of the ongoing Music in the Woods concert Series.
Amelia Lukas, known for her fine flute playing and directorial prowess, has crafted a beautifully balanced and innovative program for flute, soprano, cello, and piano titled “Songs of Spring.” Languid, lush and lovely music from celebrated American, French, Azerbaijani, and Hungarian composers combine in celebration of the change in seasons. Some prepared piano and a world premiere add another level of excitement to the concert. Joining Amelia will be dulcet-toned vocalist Arwen Myers, beloved principal cellist of the Oregon Symphony Nancy Ives, and the impressive pianist Susan DeWitt Smith.
For a live broadcast preview of the performance, tune in to All Classical Portland’s Thursdays @ Three, April 6 at 3pm.
“When flutist Amelia Lukas and her fellow cello, piano, and soprano friends get together to create a paean to spring, you can expect lots of French romantic music and other delights,” said Bill Crane, Music in the Woods music director. “This sonic bouquet will be just the thing as the days lengthen and winter will finally be past.”
Complimentary refreshments─−including wine and cheese─−will be served in the Provincial House Auditorium following the show. Additionally, concertgoers will have the opportunity to meet the artists during the reception and participate in a Q&A.
Individual concert tickets are available online at www.musicinthewoods.org at a rate of $25 per adult/$10 per child (10 and under), or $30/$10 (respectively) at the door.
